Brain training games like MindFit boost IQ.

"Mind games,Memory Training Games and Brain training games may improve our performance at work", reads the headline in The Times.

The exercises are an increasingly popular way for people of all ages to keep their minds alert.

For the first time, scientists have proven that mental exercise really does limber up the brain and make it more quick-witted.

According to the results of the study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the group who took part in the puzzles had a significantly improved problem solving ability. Moreover, the more the participants trained, the more problems they could solve.

I have read about Brain training games last investigations and i liked one of the games that implements all the scientifical requirements, the name is mindfit.

Brain training science

Dr Susanne Jaeggi and colleagues from the Universities of Michigan in the US and Bern in Switzerland, carried out this research. The preparation of the paper was supported by Swiss National Science Foundation Fellowship, the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health. It was published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.

Games improve fluid intelligence

Fluid intelligence is brain's ability to solve problems.
Memory trainings may improve problem solving skills of brain called fluid intelligence, which was previously thought to be unchangeable.
"We demonstrate that the extent of gain in intelligence critically depends on the amount of training: the more training, the more improvement in [fluid intelligence]," the researchers write in the journal article.
The team says their findings suggest that such memory training appears to strengthen the brain's many "executive processes" responsible for problem solving. The score improvements were not due to pre-existing individual differences in fluid intelligence.
The idea that it's possible to improve fluid intelligence without directly practicing on tests themselves opens a wide range of applications in education, according to the researchers.

Cognitive training

"The finding that cognitive training can improve fluid intelligence is a landmark result because this form of intelligence has been claimed to be largely [nonsusceptible to change]," Susanne Jaeggi, of the department of psychology at the University of Michigan, and colleagues write in the journal article. "Our data provide evidence that, with appropriate training, there is potential to improve fluid intelligence."
Practicing a challenging memory task spurs a surprising intelligence gain.

Computer mental games

The computer game designed to get to a more difficult level if the player succeeds to meet everyone's intelligence level, but if the player looses, the coming level gets easier not to disappoint the player.
